OMG! Shayli's Intro to Pole class tonight looked like so much fun. I filmed the routine they learned at the end of class. There were more girls in class, but only the one girl was willing to be on the blog :(

Awesome class Shayli.

Go pole girls!

I love wandering the halls of the studio looking for camera opportunities :) Here's what I saw in tonights classes.

And, I even snuck in on an Intro to Pole class. Intro to pole is the first class that a student will take to learn the basics of the pole. Kaitlyn and Britney did so so good for their first time. Thank you for letting me film!

Dirty Dancing

Kira taught such a fun Dirty Dancing class tonight. Thanks Kira!

You can catch this class every Tuesday at 7:00pm.

Got pole talent?

Here are two great video's from America's Got Talent and Australia's Got Talent. Both are very different but very entertaining and representative of pole fitness and pole dancing. I love the guy, but I also love the three girls. Who is your favorite?

Pole dancing and your pocket book.

In most places in the country and the world, pole dancing classes are only for the women of the uppper class. Thankfully, this is not the case Ogden Utah! Our prices, depending on your frequency of the studio, range from $49-$99/month. This is unheard of in places like California, Colorado, New York, Nevada, and almost any country in the world. Pole classes are costing students $100-$300/month. Just google pole dancing classes if you don't believe me.

I can't blame another studio for having high prices. The amount of owners it takes to start a dance studio and the rent that it costs to rent a decent facility is crazy. Here at French Kiss Fitness, we are lucky to only have one owner and a landlord who is fair :) We still have the same over head as any other dance studio or pole studio. Check out this well written article written by Candy & Chrome that tells it like it is.

Why are pole dancing classes so expensive? Click here for the answer.

In our pro pole class, Tiffany taught a really cool spin combo. I can't seem to post the video here, but follow this link to the studio's facebook fan page to watch it:

Why the new name?

I have had a few comments in the suggestion box regarding the new name. Most people love it and a few hate it. I can not keep the name Adult Dance & Fitness or Studio Blue because I have had to rearrange my business plan and the way my business is set up through the government offices.

I had to pick a new name and I figured that we would go for something a little more sexy since we do teach pole dancing and we do have the occaisional lap dance workshop.

It's getting really frustrating defending pole dancing and pole fitness. I have tried for the past five years to keep pole fitness clean and to keep the studio as conservative as possible, but this year, I knew it was time for us to come out of hiding and allow the studio to take on a sexier role. No it's still not for strippers, but why should we have to defend hip twirling, hair flipping, pole dancing, chair dancing, any longer? No more. We are sexy fit women and not ashamed of it....hence the name French Kiss Fitness.

Then there are those who say, "But you offer more than just sexy dancing. What about the aerial and fitness classes". For the majority of our time in business our main "product" was the pole. Every once in a while I add a class that I find interesting such as Aerial Silk and African Heat. Pole has always defined the business, these styles have been brought in as an added bonus. I don't know how long our aerial and fitness classes will stay popular and well attended. I do know that I will always offer pole. Without pole, this studio would not exist.

For those that still hate it, I apologize. I hope you will continue to support Weber & Davis Counties only studio that keeps it real and fresh.

Name change.

The name of the studio will no longer be Blue by Adult Dance & Fitness. The new name is "French Kiss Fitness". The owner is the same, all teachers will be staying, and we are adding some additional classes.

It will take approx. a week to make all the necessary changes to the website, facebook, studio signage...

Sorry for any confusion this may cause.

Dirty Dancing

Tonight was our very first Dirty Dancing class taught by new instructor Kira. We had a packed house full of women who were definately out of their comfort zone. From the reception desk, I heard lots of giggling. Only a hand full were willing to be video taped being so naughty on the dance floor :)

Not bad for only 1 hour of practice.

Thank you to everyone who came. I hope you enjoyed it!

All about the Silks!

Our Intermediate Silks class did so well tonight!

Brooke performing the "Candle Stick"

Mallory performing the "Flamingo Hang"

Both moves look similar, but are very very different. Thanks ladies for letting me take pictures!

Tuesday night video's

Since I'm preggo and can't dance, I figured I would spy on some classes tonight and take some video so you can see the fun stuff that is happening :)

Here's our African Heat class showing off what they learned today.

Silk instructor Shayli shows us how to get into a Superman.

Instructor Tiffany does the "Teddy Bear"

Student Britney just learned how to do the "Advanced Ballerina" on the pole. This is only her second attempt. Great job Brit!!!

I love Tuesdays!

What the studio has taught me

Time out. Let me take a break from the specials, the pictures, and the video's. I wanted to take just a moment to tell you what I have learned from owning this dance studio for the past five years.

1. I have gotten over my fear of having "girl friends". I was one of those girls that would have told you that I didn't have many girl friends because girls are catty, vicious, and evil. Although I have experienced quite a bit of this in the past five years of owning the studio, I have seen many examples of women helping women. The atmosphere in this place has been surprisingly supportive of womens differences and we all seem to come together for the common purpose of dance.

2. All you need is love. I know this sounds lame, but since I met my husband two years ago, I have accomplished more than I ever dreamed. He is my rock and the one who gives me energy to come to the studio and has taught me to appreciate dance and to love my job.

3. Dance is forever changing. Five years ago, I would have told you that the world revolved around jazz, ballet, and hip hop. Now I know better! Ever three months, I find a new dance style that I have to learn and some of them I end up bringing to the studio. Pole was a big surprise to me as well as circus fitness. I'm so glad that I didn't snub my nose at the word "pole".

4. My pole is my friend! Whenever I have a bad day, I know that my pole in my living room will be there with a boom box and my favorite MP3 mix. It's amazing what 20 minutes of free dance on the pole can do for your spirit.

5. Owning the studio has made me see my worst days and my best days. There have been days when I thought that I couldn't stay in business for one more month. This I can tell you: When you are at your lowest, there is always something good waiting to come your way. If you are doing what you love and you are doing it with integrity and putting the grunt work into it, you will get what you want.

6. If you come to the studio, chances are, you will get pregnant! This year alone, the studio has experienced more than 16 pregnancies with 6 of those coming from our instructors. Don't drink the water!

Thank you for listening. I am feeling very humbled today. I am sitting at my computer at the studio listening to classes happening, fans blowing, and the phrase 5, 6, 7, 8. Life is good and I am so lucky to have this studio and the people in it in my life!
