May is for friendship!

My biggest pet peeve is when I walk into a store, a restaurant, or another gym and I smell and feel women being catty and just plain bitchy to one another. Folded arms, looking away, girls that can't even say "Hey".

I think that's why I love being in the studio so much. It is filled with so much love. I love it when I see a struggling student master a move and the whole class breaks out into cheering. Women genuinly have love and appreciation for other women, but for some reason, when I leave these doors all I see is the opposite.

So May is for friendship. You will see special things happening in the studio during the month of May that are designed to bring us closer and celebrate the special feeling that our studio already has. To start off, anyone who purchases or renews a membership will get a special one month pass to give to a friend or family member. Let's start getting more women in the studio to experience what the rest of us already have learned.

Watch out for female bonding in the month of May. You never know when the receptionist might hop out from behind the desk and give you a free hug! I'm serious....watch out!

Lyrical Jazz...it's for everyone!

Check out Friday night's lyrical jazz class. We love to teach everyone how to love dance as much as we do. Devon Flint is the new instructor for this class and she did a fantastic slow dance to one of my favorite songs. Check it out:

Beginning hoop.

This is what you can expect from a beginning Aerial Hoop (lyra) class. Here is Meagan performing just a handfull of the moves that were taught in yesterday's beginners class.

Pilates is here!

We have a brand new teacher and a brand new class joining the program here at Blue.

Pilates
Thursday's 7-8pm
A mat will be provided or you can bring your own.

Wuh hoo! We love adding new classes for our students to try. Pilates is so so good for the core. This is a great class for all of our pole and aerial students who need a little extra strength and toning in that mid section.

Pole Fitness I moves

Here's a short video clip of the pole moves that students learn in pole fitness 1. Don't be afraid of the pole! We are not teaching women how to become a stripper. In our studio, you will start off with simple spins and holds. In pole fitness 1.5 every student will learn how to go upside down on the pole.

Enjoy!

Silks on the street

We had a great turn out this past Saturday for Silks on the Street. Thanks for coming out ladies...you were fantastic!

What is "Silks on the Street"?
Glad you asked! It's an opportunity for all of our aerial teachers and students to show off their skills right on Washington Blvd. We suspend the rigs off of the balcony that overlooks our studio.
Beginning students are always welcome to participate. We provide outdoor seating for friends, family, and spectators. No need to choreograph an aerial routine. Most students just take turns performing 2 or 3 tricks at a time.

When is Silks on the Street?
Every Saturday noon-2:00pm as long as we have good weather.

This is a great opportunity for newcomers to check out the studio and see some of our students and teachers to strut their stuff!

Teacher photo's

Our 2010 teacher photo shoot was held this past Saturday. The theme was burlesque/circus. All of the teachers looked fantastic! Annie and Sheena spent many many hours preparing many of the costumes by hand. Here we are goofing off waiting for the real shoot to begin.

Sounds cool....but I can't pole dance!

Yes you can! Who says that you can't pick up a new hobby or exercise routine in your mid 30's, 40's, or 50's? Pole fitness isn't for strippers anymore. Give us the opportunity to show you that the pole is simply a piece of gym equipment. You will learn to spin, climb, invert, and maneuver your body in ways you thought were impossible.

Pole fitness is not difficult. We have wonderful classes that cater to especially the beginners. If you are new to pole fitness, take Intro to Pole as your first class. In this class, the teacher will discuss what pole fitness is all about. You will get a tour of the studio, see demonstrations, and even learn five pole moves that everyone can do!

Hop on our website www.danceogden.com and take advantage of our Free Day Pass. The stripper pole is now the vertical pole and the fitness community is owning it!

Utah radio interview - what is pole dancing?

Lizz Schofield, co-owner of Studio Soiree and founder and member of the Pole Fitness Association, did this awesome radio interview a few days ago with KRCL radio. Lizz did a wonderful job of educating the hostess of the show as well as the listeners on what pole fitness really is. A student and friend of ours, Melissa Hite, was also a guest on the show. Way to go Melissa!

Notice how many questions were asked about strippers. What the fudge!!!
