The baby is coming!
This blog post is sort of studio related...sort of not, but I really wanted to post it and share my thoughts.
In four short days, I will be having a new baby we're going to call Zolara Marie. My husband and I are so excited and anxious to hold the little bug :)
Most of you know how much I love the studio and how hard I work to try to keep things running smoothly. When I first found out I was pregnant, I thought "YAY a baby"! My next immediate thought was, "Oh no! The studio!"
I haven't been able to teach classes in about five months and I knew that I would need to take some time off to bond with baby Z and allow my body to recover. What I didn't know is just how much the girls surrounding me (students and teachers), would help. They have been teaching all the classes, cleaning, reception work...you name it. Now the big day is away, and I feel 100% confident in their abilities to keep the studio running smoothly until I get back.
So, thank you teachers and those students who go above and beyond. You are my rock, my support system, and you energize me everytime I walk into the building.
I will be back in August and you can bet that I will be back to teaching and making grown women cry out in pain :)
See you then!!!

Flash Mob
We are celebrating National Dance Day this year in conjunction with FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance". They have posted a video on their network website that shows a dance that every dancer in the USA is supposed to learn and perform on July 30th in a large group of people called a Flash Mob.
If you would like to participate in this years Flash Mob, all you need to do is come to class on Monday's and Thursday's at 7:00pm (Flash Mob will take over our Hip Hop Hotties and Story Book Jazz classes for the rest of July).
To get a head start on your learning, watch the video. This is the exact dance we will be performing in front of an unsuspecting audience on July 30th. For more details about the day of the flash mob such as meeting times and what to wear, talk to your instructor.

Silks at the Park
This past weekend, a bunch of students and teachers gathered at the park for our first 2011 weekly "Silks in the Park". We had so much fun sharing our talents with the many people who were at the park that day. If you want to see some major silk action, you should come check us out. It's free and aerial students of all abilities (even if you've only had one class) are invited to play on the silks.

Spinning vs. Stationary
Did you know there are two types of poles? Stationary (aka static pole) is basically a pole that does not move or spin. A spinning pole rotates with your body when you spin. A spinning pole is much harder to dance on because it requires an advanced knowledge of safety and strength. Here are two video's that best show the difference:

Pretty cool huh? We will be having a spinning pole workshop very soon. Check back soon!
