Pole dancer paralyzed in the UK after fall
I heard this story last night during a family dinner and at first, I wasn't sure that I should share it because it is so rare. But, I do think that everyone needs to appreciate how dangerous pole really is.
Your chances of staying safe on the pole greatly increase when you learn how to pole dance in a studio vs. at home watching youtube. The studio offers experienced instructors, proper crash mats, and spotters.
The move that the injured lady was performing was this:
Cross ankle release.
The problem with this trick is that your are upside down and your neck is arched back. Ideally, when you fall, you would want your neck tucked in and your back rounded.
So please, don't teach yourself at home. Always try new tricks in the pole studio with an instructor by your side. Ask for a spotter and use a crash mat. Never try anything that makes you feel unsafe even if everyone else in class is doing it. Don't let this story scare you away from pole class. It is simply a reminder that safety should always be first.

Midvale Tour
For those of you who haven't yet checked out our Midvale location...here's what you're missing :)
Retail area where you can by stylish dance gear, platform shoes, dance shoes, leg warmers, dew point, and dry hands.
Here is a great view of our aerial/rails dance area. Very active tonight!
And here are a few pictures of our students and teachers in action!
I forgot to grab pictures of our red dressing room and our observers balcony. Our Midvale studio is much different than our Ogden studio. It's open floor plan, exposed walls, and industrial feel give it that gymnastics studio feeling which I love.
In the near future, we will be adding mirrors, re-decorating the lobby, and getting a wood floor around our railing rig. Stay tuned!

Top 10 ways to get the most out of your membership.
Britney Breitweiser, one of our blogging students wrote this nice "how to" for our daily blog. Thanks Brit!
"Top 10 ways to get the most out of your membership
1) Attend classes as often as possible! I like to find a few classes I like and make sure to at least attend those every week and add on a few more on top of that. Not only have I had a great time doing it, I’ve seen how the classes help with body sculpting. I am more visibly toned in about two months of attending classes than I ever have been before - it’s fantastic!
2) Try EVERYTHING! You never know what your hidden talents are if you never try. I never would have tried aerial silks had McKell not convinced me to go with her because honestly, I was a little bit terrified of them. The studio offers all kinds of classes including pole fitness, aerial silks, hoops, trapeze, rails, yoga pole, cardio step, zumba, chair dancing, black light, break dancing, belly dancing, as well as more core classes to get fit. There are so many different things to do at the studio every night it's hard to decide what you want to do!
3) Attend a class even if you don't have a friend with you. My very first class was a Black Light class. I had no idea what to expect and at the time I didn't have anybody to go with. I am so glad I did considering it's now one of my favorite classes at the studio.
The more I attended class, the more I realized I didn't HAVE to have someone there with me because the girls become your friends by celebrating with me when I hit a hard move that I haven't been able to yet or even with helping me with a move that I had yet to figure out (trust me, there are a lot of those).
4) Don’t worry about what you look like. I know I’ve looked ridiculous a time or two on everything I’ve tried, but you’ve just got to keep in mind that EVERYBODY has been a beginner once. Nobody just jumps onto a pole for the first time and hits level four moves – it takes time and practice and a LOT of looking ridiculous to get there.
5) Don’t worry about what other people think about you attending a pole fitness classes. I get the sarcastic remarks that I’m going to “stripper school” all the time. Even though the reputation of pole fitness is getting better, it’s still got a stigma attached to it with people claiming that it’s just immoral stripping. Pole fitness has been the most exciting thing I’ve ever done and the best workout I’ve ever had, and I’m glad I didn’t let other people’s opinions keep me away from the studio.
6) Follow Studio Blue’s blog. Meagan posts so many things about what is going on at the studio and the accomplishments of our instructors and students on her blog. About 99% of everything that happens at the studio is announced on the blog and it’s so much fun to read about! It’s become such a great tool to use to communicate when things are happening at both the Ogden and Midvale studio.
7) Attend events. The studio puts on great events that you can be involved with. The competition on September 10th was just one of those events. There will be more competitions in the future and I highly recommend attending them because I was able to see what I could be able to do if I am willing to put the hours into it. Seeing it live gave me so much more motivation to become better!
8) Get to know your instructors. The more you get to know your instructors, the more they get to know you – and that’s a really good thing! When they teach me a move on the pole or aerial, they know the moves I will struggle with and the ones that I will be able to pick up easily. Part of the reason I LOVE going to classes is because of the AMAZING instructors there are at the studio. It makes learning hard and sometimes painful moves so much FUN!
9) Get to know your fellow classmates. I figure if I’m going to see someone once, twice, or even three times a week, I may as well know a thing or two about them. The girls at the studio are amazing! I showed up completely nervous at my first Black Light class, and finally admitted that I'd never been to a class before and instantly the girls helped me with everything by making sure I knew what I was doing and that I was comfortable with the moves they were putting into the routine.
10) Know about what you are doing. Did you realize that the Pole Fitness Association is trying to qualify pole fitness a competitive sport in the Olympics?! There are really amazing things happening in the industry! Plus, it’s always fun to know who the latest elitist is and to watch videos of them in their element! There is always more to learn and ways to improve your own skills – keep up the good work and I’ll see you all in class!!

Take a tour...
Here's a sneak peek into our Ogden studio.
Q: Why the name Blue?
A: Take a wild guess :)
While you wait for class, check out our boutique full of clothes, shoes, and all the bells and whistles you will need for class such as dry hands, firm grip, and dew point.
The first floor you will come across is our main dance floor where we hold all of our hip hop, chair dancing, jazz, belly dancing, cardio, pilates, and other dance and fitness classes. Tonight, I saw our lovely chair dancers in action :)
Next, I visited our main floor pole/aerial room. This room is used for our large pole classes and all of our aerial classes. New teacher Chauntal works with a student on a new move :)
Lastly, I headed upstairs to check on our advanced students practicing the "lady". When in doubt, ask your friend to spot you...that's our motto.
Thanks for visiting our Ogden location. Check back later this week for a tour of our new Midvale location called "Pearl".

Fashion Swap!
Now that the seasons are changing, our wardrobe will be too. However, it is so expensive to buy all new clothes...especially if you are a different dress size than you were last year.
We have a green solution! All next week, you can bring in your unwanted clothes, shoes, and accessories that are in good condition. We will give each piece of clothing a value. For example a name brand pair of jeans that are in good condition would give you 5 points while a basic tank top would give you 1 point. On Saturday, Sept 25th, you will come back to the studio and swap your points for a new ward robe.
Please bring women's, mens, and children's clothing. No undergarments please! All clothing must be in good condition. If there are any clothes left, they will be donated to charity.
Bring your clothing in during our normal business hours to the Ogden or Midvale Sept 20th-24th.
Monday-Thursday 5:00-9:00pm
Remember, the better the clothing, the more points you will earn. No membership necessary.
Come ready to swap clothing Saturday at either the Ogden or Midvale location, September 25th from 10:00am-Noon!
For questions, send an e-mail to danceogden@gmail.com
If all goes well, we plan on doing this every time the weather changes.
Grannie Panties
Our blogging students have written a special blog article for me. I love it!
The Ginger and I have a few things in common: (1) a love for pole and aerial, (2) new shoes that we can’t wait to use in black light, and (3) super sarcastic boyfriends.
Now what does having sarcastic boyfriends have to do with pole dancing?
While most boyfriends would find it really sexy that their girlfriends have taken up the art of pole dancing, sarcastic boyfriends are a little different. See, sarcastic boyfriends find pole dancing humorous. So when we call it a “work out” it’s usually met with a chuckle and that’s when they are being nice!
One of my more favorite remarks was regarding our Saturday class with Shayli:
“We’re heading off to vertical strength, be back in an hour.”
*Spoken sweetly to a boyfriend still sleeping in bed*
“Alright, I’m going to stay here and work on my horizontal strength.”
Needless to say, we can’t wait until the next “Bring Your Man to Class” week!
So if they don’t think it’s all that sexy, then why are we pole dancing?
See, I liken pole dancing to a pair of black lacey panties. No one actually has to see your panties for you to feel sexy wearing them right? Just because that underwear might not make a debut, that doesn’t mean you should be stuck wearing granny panties. No one may ever see us pole dancing, but that doesn’t make it pointless. Pole dancing still makes us feel sexy and strong, even if the girls in our classes are the only ones that see or care.
